LightCode Platform License

Version 2.0 – 2026

This version supersedes Version 1.0 (2021), which covered an earlier codebase.

1. Scope

This license applies to the LightCode Platform developed by KarmicSoft: its runtime and engine, editor, runner, components, tooling, and the course and cohort management tools that operate it. The @karmicsoft/lc-* bricks published on npm carry their own license (see §6).

2. Free use — community and education

You may access and use the published platform (lightcodepedia.org) free of charge for:

• personal learning;
• teaching in courses for which learners pay no fee to access the platform’s content or a credential delivered through it;
• non-commercial research.

Content you create with the platform is yours. KarmicSoft’s own course material is © KarmicSoft unless a page states another license.

3. Uses that require a commercial license

• Paid training: courses, programs, bootcamps or micro-credentials for which learners or their sponsors pay, whatever the provider (company, school or university, including continuing education).
• Commercial services built on the platform, or its use within a paid offering.
• Deployment of the runtime on private, corporate or cloud infrastructure.
• White-label or OEM use, and integration into proprietary products.
• Use of the course and cohort management tools (provisioning, rosters, learning-management delivery, gates).

4. Commercial offers

KarmicSoft offers, under a written agreement:

• a managed cohort service: provisioning, operation and closing of a cohort, with a service-level agreement (SLA);
• private deployment of the runtime in the customer’s own infrastructure;
• technical support, maintenance and enterprise features.

5. Restrictions

Without a written agreement you may not redistribute, sublicense, sell, rent, or host the platform’s core for others; reverse engineer it beyond what applicable law expressly permits; or remove its copyright and license notices.

6. Licensing model

• Core platform: proprietary — © KarmicSoft, all rights reserved.
• Bricks (@karmicsoft/lc-* on npm): MIT, as stated in each package.
• Third-party libraries: under their own licenses.

The core platform is intentionally GPL-incompatible: GPL-licensed code may not be integrated into it.

7. No warranty without an agreement

Under the free use of §2 the platform is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, and KarmicSoft disclaims all liability for any damages arising from its use. Warranties, availability and response commitments exist only in a commercial agreement (§4).
